The Ways of the Dead by Neely Tucker
This is the first book in a new crime series that is set in Washington, D.C. It took me awhile to get into this book, but I’m glad I didn’t give up on it, as things picked up and started moving faster about halfway through.
Sully Carter is a jaded reporter who is investigating the murder of the teenage daughter of a D.C. judge. The young girl stops by a store after her dance class and ends up with her throat slit and her body is thrown in a dumpster.
Three local kids are arrested for the murder but Sully believes there is more to the case than meets the eye. As he starts investigating other similar cases in the same area he starts to feel pressure from the police and the government to back off the case. Sully is in too deep and he won’t stop until he finds the truth.
Inspired by the real-life Princeton Place murders, this was fast paced read and had several twists that you will never see coming.
