The Creeps by John Connolly
The third book in the Samuel Johnson series opens innocently enough with a birthday party for a 10 billion year old demon. In Biddlecombe, a small English town, this is about as “normal” as it gets.
Samuel Johnson, his trusty dachshund and their friends must once again come up against evil forces set on their destruction. This time the evil comes to them and it’s something that even “The Great Malevolence” doesn’t want to encounter.
Where do a long missing architect, a very polite monster and Mrs. Abernathy fit in to this creative tale of shadows and revenge? Is it the end of the Multiverse? Did the Scientists really cause this with the Hadron Collider? Find out in this quirky, creepy and chuckle filled narrative.
I enjoyed the book very much. Having not read the first two books in the series I originally thought the book was a children’s book, but after the first few footnotes I realized I was mistaken. The footnotes really are a must read, especially if you haven’t read the first two books in the series. They are imaginative and informative and you often find yourself sidetracked by them, but they add a lot of character to the book.
