Dark Magic by James Swain
James Swain, a real life magician, delves into the darker recesses of man’s mind in his new novel Dark Magic, a supernatural thriller which will keep you turning pages faster than a magician can pull a rabbit out of his hat.
Peter Warlock is a stage magician who gives nightly performances for loyal fans in New York City. He astounds his audiences with his feats of magic but more amazing is his real gift, one he keeps hidden from all but a few persons, even his live-in girlfriend. Peter is a psychic who has regularly scheduled meetings with a group of men and women like him who hold séances and peer into the future. It is at such a gathering that Peter sees a man about to unleash unholy terror in the streets of NYC, causing deaths in monumental proportions.
As Peter and his friends rush to prevent tragedy, they come to realize that their own deaths are being sought by a shadowy group of psychics in the U.K., the Order of Astrum. Unbeknownst to Peter, the Order has links to him through his now-deceased parents and they want very much to see him dead. As a hired assassin targets Peter and his friends, they work with the FBI to learn the identity of the man sent to devastate the city.
Trying to keep his girlfriend pleased with their relationship, his fans happy with his performances, and the skeptical FBI satisfied, Peter has to use all of his psychic abilities to stay on top of the action. Even when the reader thinks everything has been sorted out, Swain throws in a few more tricks to shake things up. You’ll need a crystal ball to see through this one.
I don’t have to be psychic to say Swain, a national bestselling author, has another winner on his hands.
