Wanderer by Robyn Carr
Robyn Carr has told heartwarming stories of small town life for years. She has now ventured to a new town on the coast of Oregon, Thunder Point.
We are introduced to Hank Cooper, better known as Cooper, a former buddy of Luke Riordan’s from the Virgin River Series. Cooper is headed to Thunder Point, because a friend, who served with Luke and him, passed away suddenly. Soon, Cooper finds out he has inherited Ben’s run down bar and the surrounding land, which includes a bird sanctuary and a beautiful coastal beach. Cooper tries to find out why Ben was living as though he was poor when he was so land rich.
Sarah Dupre, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter pilot, has recently relocated to Thunder Point. Trying to get away from an ex who believed fidelity was optional, she relocated with her teenage younger brother, who she’s been a guardian to since their parents died in an accident 10 years ago. As her brother adjusts to school, Sarah is also trying to find her way in a new life. When her brother is injured, she wants to know how he connected with the mysterious stranger that has landed in Thunder Point.
With a cast of characters, that complete the small town, this is an incredibly engaging and funny book. You can feel the sense of community and neighbors helping neighbors, plus there is a good mystery of sorts. Robyn has a flavor for developing multi-layered stories that entrench you in the small town. This is certainly a great start to what should be a wonderful new series.
